SHORT COMMUNICATION 295
They Know The Truth
By
Roger Behra
During December, 2011 two very well-known men died: Kim Jong Il and Christopher Hitchens. Jon Il was the leader of North Korea. Hitchens was a polemicist who lived in England and authored many books. They were totally different men, but they had one thing in common: They were confirmed Atheists. They denied the very existence of God and an eternal life after earthly life ended. In death they both had something in common: They immediately knew the truth, and it must have been totally shocking.
Kim Jon Il was a staunch communist leader who ruled with ruled with ruthless and absolute power. His general approach to life concerning others was Godless and very unchristian. He had no concern at all for human rights. Because of his very bad decisions as his country´s leader, severe sanctions were leveled against his country which caused millions of his people to live in poverty and hunger that led to millions of their deaths. Meanwhile, the lifelong approach to his own personal life was another story.
While Jong Il´s horrendous decisions caused starvation and death to Koreans because of the sanctions, Jong Il lived the high life and included sexual immorality with young Korean women. He had three sons with two different women and a daughter with a third woman. His marital status was never very clear.
Jong Il´s high life living was very much so. He had a 16-car private train that included his own very private and very luxurious car. He always traveled by that train. He had it stocked with expensive French wine (10, 000 bottles), habitually dined on lobster and shark´s fin soup-a rare delicacy. And of course there were the young women. His frequent banquets started at midnight and ended in the morning.
Christopher Hitchens is a different story. He is known for his atheism and politics. He had a ferocious intellect and was well known in his native England. He was a prolific and public intellectual and a frequent TV commentator. He became very famous in 2007 due to his book, “God Is Not Great”, which is a manifesto for atheists. As an essayist he was extremely provocative, infuriating, brilliant, and intensely serious. His heritage was half-Christian and half-Jewish, yet, he became fully non-believing. His prolific intelligence did not take him down the most important avenue: the need to prove that God does not exist. With all the proof that Goes exist, he ignored it.
As soon as Kim Jong Il and Christopher Hitchens drew their last breaths, both knew the rest of the story: God does exist. God was there, the God they denied and refused to believe in. And they felt the full effect of what the Bible tells us: They denied the existence of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, so Jesus denied them before His Heavenly Father. And then they entered the dark and long. To think that is going to last for all eternity should make one think hard and long. There only salvation is if they changed their minds at the last minute. Only God knows.
