The
Damaging Duo

It is not coincidence that two kinds
of negative have consistently invaded the American culture and greatly harmed.
The two negative behaviors are frequently interrelated although they can cause
harm separately. The two negative behaviors are cohabitations and divorce.
Cohabitation is the negative behavior
that has greatly increased. In the late 1960s, only 10 percent of U. S. couples
moved in together, and they ended up with higher divorce rates. Today, about 60
percent of couples live together before the first marry. That is an astounding
increase in cohabitation, and those cohabitors who later marry also add to the
greater increase in the divorce rate because many of them do divorce.
There are different reasons for
cohabitation to take place. The easiest kind and simplistic form is when a
couple meet each other, like each other’s company, and are attracted to each
other, they move in together and cohabit with sex a primary goal. The next kind
is when the couples have a courtship, talk of marriage but do not get serious
about setting a date. A third kind is when the couples have become engaged and
plan to marry, but they cohabit between the engagement and the marriage date.
All this reasons and kinds of cohabitation are immoral and provide the
opportunity for disaster later on in the form of divorce.
It is very common now in modern times
for young people between the ages of 19 and 24 to cohabit and have children. Their
reason is not to marry at all until they are settled in a job and have money to
start a marriage properly. Young people are great contributors to America’s
broken culture, and this is one of the ways they contribute.
Thankfully, there is a group of people
who live throughout America that does everything properly. They are America’s
Christians. They love and respect God. They attend church weekly. They keep the
10 Commandments. As families they live good and proper Christian lives that are
greatly effective in America’s culture. They have good Christian friends. It is
true their total number has noticeably diminished, but those that remain are
greatly appreciated. America’s Christians are very much needed to offset the
many evils that run rampant throughout the American culture that is badly
broken.
