One Famous Disgrace, By Roger Behra

SHORT COMMUNICATIONS 338

One Famous Disgrace

By

Roger Behra

There is someone who is very famous in America because of his outstanding talent as a Major League baseball player. He is average looking, very, very rich, and very well known in the sports world in America and certain other parts of the world.  He is also famous for activities and behavior other than baseball. Although he is famous as a baseball player, he is also famous for being far from a great person. He's well known as: Alex Rodriquez-A-Rod for short.  He is also well known for not being a likeable person. Even his own teammates do not like him.

A-Rod is the perfect example of a person who lives his life according to the counterculture philosophy as he goes on day-to-day making up his own rules for daily life.  He bows to nobody but himself on or off the baseball field. As a result he is not well accepted socially in the clubhouse or elsewhere. He is regarded as a morally disgraceful person.

In the baseball world he is considered a cheater, because he uses performance enhancing drugs (PEDS) while he strongly denies it when there is conclusive evidence that he does.  When evidence forced him to stop the PEDS, soon his performance nosedived. It is very doubtful that he will ever be elected to baseball's Hall of Fame.

As a person in general on and off the baseball field he's very arrogant.  And to be around him is quite depressing. That compounds the fact that makes him unlikeable: He's a cheater and he's arrogant. His own Yankee teammates keep their distance from him in the clubhouse.

Off the baseball field his personal life is a combination of making up his own rules to live by and wanton immorality. It caused his marriage to fail. Since his marriage failed (no surprise there) he is allegedly known to associate with gamblers and cocaine users in Las Vegas. He has been called on the carpet to answer questions concerning that behavior, because it casts a harmful shadow on major league baseball. MLB prohibits gambling and drug use.

His lack of morality is a great part of his making up the rules to live by, and there is plenty of the lack of morality sprinkled throughout his famous life it seems. He has wandered from one famous woman to another. He even retreated to southern France to cohabit with his Hollywood girlfriend between baseball seasons. The media certainly focused on that.

The total bottom line with A-Rod is this: He has used God's great blessings to be unlikeable, a cheater, arrogant, a nule breaker, and gravely immoral as he lives his diabolical lifestyle. Young and teenage boys should not emulate him in any way, shape, or form because of his diabolicale character and his greatly tarnished baseball career accomplishments.  His legacy is already unalterable history, and it is absolutely disgraceful. During his old age he's going to cry himself to sleep as he ponders what is his legacy instead or what could be his legacy.

Some American Fallen Idols, By Roger Behra

SHORT COMMUNICATIONS 335

Some American Fallen Idols

By

Roger Behra

The American sports world has many fallen idols: O. J. Simpson; Tiger Woods; Mark McGuire; Barry Bonds; Roger Clemens; Sammy Sosa; A-Rod just to name a few great ones. Now, once again the sports world is reeling from the gigantic revelation that seven times Tour de France cycling winner -Lance Armstrong- was involved in the biggest doping scandal in international history. He is the biggest and most famous fall from grace in American society since O. J. Simpson.

After seven years of vehemently and defiantly denying that he used performance enhancing drugs he finally told the world that he doped during his cycling career. He told that he used testosterone, cortisone, human growth hormone, and the blood booster EPO. He stopped at nothing to enhance his winning posture.

It is very puzzling why he would pick this point in time to make his revelations. It is also puzzling that he did not look down the road to see and realize what he was going to eventually have to face when the truth hit the fan? Didn’t he realize he would be stripped of his medals? Didn’t he realize he would have to return millions of dollars? Didn’t he realize that lawsuits were in the mix? Didn’t he realize that he would be barred from future cycling events? Didn’t he realize that so many of his fans would become angry at his cheating behavior?

Armstrong didn’t realize he was cheating because so many of the cyclists were using performance enhancing drugs. Doping was wide spread among Tour de France cyclist. So, the conclusion is this: don’t ask him to return his medals; don’t sue him; don’t force him to return millions of dollars. Leave everything as is, because the best doper won.

All eight (8) of these men mentioned here have several things in common. All were born with great physical assets. All had great athletic ability. All became very famous with their physical assets and athletic ability. Millions of dollars came their way. But the most noticeable thing they had in common was their .25¢ cent brains. That caused them to be not worth much in the end. Do the math: 8 x .25¢ cents equals $2.00. Now, they will always be remembered as great fallen idols, who squandered their fame, and in some cases their money, because of their .25¢ cent small brains. Their disgusted and angry fans will always regard them as such.

The baseball players will suffer the most and greatest loss. They will never be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. It will be their saddest loss. Instead of the Hall of Fame it will always be the Hall of Shame because of their .25¢ cent brains. And Lance Armstrong will have to give back millions of dollars and the seven (7) medals he won as a cheater.

Chemically Induced Failures, By Roger Behra

SHORT COMMUNICATION 256

Chemically Induced Failures

By

Roger Behra

Sports in America, especially professional sports, are king for two important reasons: big business and television viewing. Three professional sports top the list. They are the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), and the National Basketball Association (NBA). For the most part everything runs very smoothly, and the fans are quite satisfied. However, around 1995 very quietly a major scandal began to take shape that became widespread, lasted over ten years, and, when officially verified, has changed the statistical and career history of MLB forever. The scandal is called: STEROIDS.

Most MLB player were not involved in the taking of performance enhancing drugs, but enough players were to bring disrepute to themselves and disgrace to the game of baseball. Several famous players got consistently involved around 1997, and their careers became a joy from the fan’s perspective who thought it was talent. They were not aware it was the result of unsanctioned enhancement. Gradually the black cloud of reality appeared over the coveted realm of careers and baseball statistics. In 2010 it became noticeable. Batting averages, homerun totals pitcher’s won-loss records, and overall performances were certainly inferior, and that verified the suspicions that existed and damaged the sport of MLB.

The dream of MLB player is to have an outstanding baseball career and eventually become a HALL of FAME member. And that is predicated on the total performance record of his career. Now, the records achieved from 1997 to 2008 are for the most part going to be not recognized. And that is a shame, because some of the famous players involved would have been electable.

The use of steroids in MLB comes under the heading of cheating. Those who have been established as cheaters or are being strongly suspected as cheaters will never be elected to the HALL of FAME. Many of those who cast ballots have a list of names and have already said they will not vote for them. Mark McGuire, Rafael Palmero, Sammy Sosa, Jose Canseco, Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, and Barry Bonds are on their list, and that is only the start.

It is widely suspected that the team owners, managers, and coaches knew players were cheating with steroids. But everyone ignored what was going on because everyone was benefiting from the cheating. Owners were raking in extra millions of dollar. Game sellouts were set. Won-loss records were set. Trips to the playoffs and the World Series had many fans reveling in jubilation.

Now the sadness has firmly set in. Fans have turned their backs on MLB. Young fans were in tears after learning their baseball idols cheated. Owner’s bottom lines have suffered. Baseball’s statistics and records are very questionable. MLB has two black eyes. And many players have forfeited their cherished dream: the coveted entry into the HALL of FAME. That will help prove the old saying: “Genuine winners never cheat, and cheaters never win”. Baseball and the players are the losers.
