Poor Character Galore
By
Roger Behra
American sports keep taking hard cultural hits quite frequently it seems. The fans who idolize their favorite athletes have gone through some terrible times during the past few years and most certainly during 2009 and 2010. There are nine idolized, prized, and well-known ones who are at the top of the list, and they are all men. Too many apologies are forced upon fans. It is getting to be quite tiresome. The flagrant bad character and damage to the sport is hard to accept.
At the top of the list are several well-known names from different professional sports. These players were blessed by God with great talent, fame, and unbelievable millions. They thanked God for their talents, fame and financial riches by making up their own rules for life that included serious evil of adultery, sexual misconduct, cheating to gain money, extreme cruelty to animals, dope addiction, and illegal owning and transporting of guns. Sports fans and the news media know their names well: Tiger Woods, Ben Rothlisberger, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Vick, Kobe Bryant, Michael Phelps, Steve Garvey, Mike Tyson, and Gilbert Arenas.
Everyone of these gifted and rich professional athletes violated one or more established moral and civil laws and the trust fans placed in them. They thumbed their noses at what was morally and legally proper and socially acceptable. The fans are now tired of tearful apologies and the repair of damaged images. The fans are tired of stars who have tumbled from their pedestals. Americans in general are tired of their culture being damaged by millionaire lawbreakers and their moral lapses and evil behavior.
All the players mentioned above have millions of $$$$$ worth of talent but only .25₵ brains. They rolled the dice and ended up paying a stiff price. Their bad conduct was extremely detrimental to their character, the sport, and their legacy. And they hurt the young and older fans who put them on their fallen pedestals. Yes, they contributed to many on field victories, but they also contributed to so many immoral victories on a large scale as well.

Famous For Two Reason
By
Roger Behra
There is a part of California that is famous for two reasons. The reasons are both good and bad. The good reason is the annual climate in Orange County, California is outstanding, and so many people, want to live there. The bad reason is Orange County is famous for some very unusual crimes. The list started at 50, but extensive research has put the total as growing much larger. Some of the famous and notorious crimes and the perpetrators are to follow.
In May, 1983 the California Highway Patrol stopped a suspicious freeway driving suspect in his Toyota Celica after he was spotted driving a long way on the shoulder of the road. The arrest revealed a dead man in the passenger seat under a coat. The arrested man was Randy Kraft, who was later convicted of murdering 16 young men and linked to 29 others. Detectives are convinced he probably killed as many as 66 boys and men.
In 1980 Tom Maniscalco was known as feared motorcycle gang leader. A dispute broke out among the gang over the skimming of profits from a drug and counterfeiting scheme. The dispute left three people dead. Tom was arrested and later convicted of the triple murder.
Also in 1980 John George Brown killed a Garden Grove, California police officer inside the Cripple Creek Saloon. Another police officer was wounded along with two bar patrons. Astonishingly, Brown was not shot or wounded along with two bar patrons. Astonishingly, Brown was not shot or wounded in the furious and dangerous gun battle. Brown was later convicted and sentenced to death.
In March, 1983 convict Charles Rothenberg committed a most despicable and infamous crime. He started a fire and then raced from a burning Buena Park, California motel leaving behind his six-year-old son, David. He had given his son a sleeping pill, doused the room with kerosene, and then set a match to the room. David lived, but he was permanently disfigured from ninety-percent body burns. The reason was a custody dispute. Charles spent many years behind bars after being convicted.
On October 18, 1984, Teofilo Medina, Jr. began a robbery and killing spree. During the two weeks of robbery and killing four men clerks at gas stations and drive in dairies were robbed and dead. The Orange and Riverside counties were terrified. The killer showed no mercy during the killings. Teofilo was sentenced to death.
Orange County, California is also famous for notorious serial killings. The Charles Manson cult killings, the “Night Stalker”, the “Freeway Killer”, and the “Grim Sleeper Killer” are the most famous. They will never be forgotten.
Other famous California serial killers include Rodney Alcala. The DNA process is linking him to six cold case murders, and he is suspected of several more. The “Zodiac Killer” did his killings in the San Francisco area. All of these killings were famous because of the gruesome and torture methods used by killers.

Incomprehensible, By Roger Behra
SHORT COMMUNICATION 195
Incomprehensible
By
Roger Behra
The list of incomprehensible events and behavior going on in present day America is quite long. And sixteen letter words is the exact word to describe how the American culture is declining day by day.
The word incomprehensible means that something cannot be understood and/or acceptable. The percentage of Americans who realize their culture has greatly declined since the year 2001 has decreased. As the older generation passes away they are being replaced by younger members who aid the decline, and that does not bode well for American culture at all.
The BP oil disaster is at the top of the list. It is greatly incomprehensible as to how that could even happen. And then it is beyond belief that it could not be completely controlled immediately. The ruined ecology in many places will last a very long time and maybe forever in some places. It will be surprising if the spill will ever be stopped.
It is incomprehensible that so many monster pickups and vans can be everywhere on America’s roadways. They burn great amounts of gasoline and take up two parking spaces in smaller businesses. And the drivers of those monsters win the rudeness awards. They make up their own rules of the road. The road monsters are a classic example of something that can be done but should not be done. The monster pickups and vans and their rude and impolite drivers are a cultural disgrace.
It is incomprehensible that so many dysfunctional school systems exist in America. That is a double black-eye for the counterculture people. There was a time when America’s schools were orderly, well-run, productive, and a real credit to America’s culture, but they are not anymore. They are cesspools of behavior problems, criminal planning, and immoral dress and conversation. The curriculums are vastly diluted, and the teachers are vastly overloaded with non-teaching work. When 35% to 50% of high school seniors do not graduate, something is very wrong.
Political correctness is very incomprehensible. It is a counterculture invention. It condones behavior as acceptable without the backing of established law. It has greatly harmed America’s culture because political correctness has severely diluted established laws that are in effect. Political correctness looks away.
It is incomprehensible that bad language is part of radio shows, that “strips joints” are every where that tattooed men and some women look like zoo animals, that the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 decision has led to ever 30,000,000 abortions, and that 60% of Americans do not precise Christian living.
It is not incomprehensible that the counterculture decision to throw out the old (God, Christian living, the traditional, common sense) and bring in the new (Godlessness, money worship, sex, drugs, make up your own rules) has ruined America’s culture. Now the piper is being paid, and we all hear the tune. That is incomprehensible.

Obama’s Sinking Presidency
By
Roger Behra
If anyone had doubts and worries as President Obama became America’s new leader those doubts and worries after his first 18 months in office have become a clear cut reality, and more and more people each day are joining the initial group of doubters and worriers. The charm and charisma began to wear off around the sixth month, and his lack of quick action al the start of the BP oil spill disaster has caused his rating to sink very rapidly to and all time low. Obama’s very great lack of experience is glaring, and it is staring everyone squarely in the face.
Shortly after he settled in as president his downward spiral began with the health care travesty. It was a health care remodeling that most Americans were and are against. Then down the pike came the stimulus package that created little or no jobs to rescue America’s economy. While all of this was happening Obama was in Europe bowing at the waist making America is bad speeches in many places. At home his administration was ignoring important laws while at the same time they were marching America toward socialism and unbelievable debt accumulation. And out of the blue then came the horrible BP oil pill disaster; which will go on for a long time to come.
What is making his presidency an early disaster is inexperience, his far to the left leaning, that he and those around him are so arrogant, and that Obama is very slow to make quick, serious, and correct decisions. Obama is smart and powerful, but his presidency is a disaster so far. Coming down the road is his lukewarm friendship with Israel, a strong ally, and the ineffective approach to Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon. Iran knows Obama is a weak president, and Iran has no respect for him. Iran has a great hatred for him and America. This does not bode well for the future of Obama´s presidency at all.
What is also a great possibility is a terrorist attack on America soil that takes the lives of many Americans. Just when America must have a strong and very successful president, she does not have one. A terrorist attack on American soil would be a very severe blow to Obama’s presidency, which is already gasping for air. It no doubt would be a burial ceremony.
Another great possibility is the great economic recession is going to turn into a great depression. And that is lurking around the corner. If it becomes a reality it will be, “Katie, bar the door!”
The age group 19 through 26 was the deciding group that put Obama into office in 2009. Since his inauguration he has lost great popularity also with that age group. Now, as off July 6, 2010, Lady Ga Ga is much more popular than President Obama is on the internet Facebook.

Poverty’s Two Faces, By Roger Behra
SHORT COMMUNICATION 193
Poverty’s Two Faces
By
Roger Behra
There are two kinds of poverty that exists in the American culture, and both are quite evident on a daily basis. As one form of poverty is being treated, it leads to the second in many, many lives. So, for many people a losing situation keeps them embedded in some form or both forms in self-inflicted poverty of there own making. Any one of these two poverties has a very serious and damaging effect on lives and the American culture as well.
The damaging effect, that starts the ball rolling in MATERIAL POVERTY. Many people become victims of material poverty through no fault of their own making. Various uncontrollable circumstances, just plain bad luck, or both together can lead to material poverty. Others bring material poverty into their lives through squandering their opportunity to become educated through other bad judgment later in life, or through poor character and poor self discipline. Regardless of the reason material poverty rules in some lives, and it is rarely alleviated in most cases completely.
In America there is some partial help available. There is minimum quantity of goods and services that helps. But the unfortunate part is this. Material poverty is usually accompanied by SPIRITUAL POVERTY which is a much more debilitating kind of poverty.
Spiritual poverty is the kind of behavioral poverty that prevents the development of healthy families, work ethic, and self-sufficiency. And the absence of these guarantees band and uncontrollable behavior that includes violence, crime, drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution, illegitimate children, single parenting, prison sentences, and no work ethic. Spiritual poverty is a very losing situation.
When material poverty leads to spiritual poverty God is absent from lives, and that severely compounds the situation. Rarely does anyone recover. Only the power, graces, and blessings of God can rescue them. Christian living and solid core values are not in progress, so God is not part of their lives. Therefore, He is not asked to help, and that is the most powerful help available just for the asking. When God is not in people´s lives, the door is wide open for bad things and Satan to walk right in. And that happens much sooner than much later.

The Unmentioned Fact, By Roger Behra
SHORT COMMUNICATION 192
The Unmentioned Fact
By
Roger Behra
It is a known fact the elementary and high school systems in most places in America’s culture are quite dysfunctional. That is part of the counterculture legacy for all time. It is quite evident when 35% to 50% of high school students do not graduate. That also means thousands of new adults are going to be a great future drag on the American culture and a great disservice to themselves. But one important factor that is never mentioned greatly aids school dysfunction, and it is very important.
Throughout America there are thousands of very experienced teachers who are very productive still and have been extremely successful for thirty years or more. And the unmentioned fact is this. Because of the present situation in most American schools, that includes so many self-inflicted problems, the problem is not being mentioned at all. It can also come under the situation of self-infliction, how ever. Thousands of experienced, productive, and successful teachers are RETIRING TO EARLY. The self-inflicted problems have produced another one-early retirement throughout America. They are saying you can have it. They are throwing in the very towel of experience. They are saying you can have it. They are throwing in the very towel of experience. This fact is directly aiding the dark days of America’s school culture, and there is no remedy for it under the present conditions. These teaching gems are being replaced with new young teacher who cannot handle it. Fifty-percent of them leave at the mid-year point teachers who cannot handle it. Fifty-percent of them leave at the mid-year point. All of this greatly contributes to the seriously dysfunctional school environment in America today.
One teacher in the Fountain Valley, California school system has 37 years teaching experience. He could teach another ten years or longer, but his last day was June 18, 2010. He could not take the numerous defeating problems put on teachers by the administrators at his school. The No Child Left Behind Act tops the list and adds so much to the disillusionment. The nonproductive red tape and the great amount of busywork dumped on students and a teacher makes the school day an uninteresting chore. The six pre and post test and the six pre and post writing assignments suck the fun and interest out teaching and learning.
The students of today are also very different. Surprise! They except very quick results with very little effort put forth. They want something for nothing. Their interest in learning is very shallow because they could care less. The fast-paced American culture has really gotten in the way.
The bottom line is this in regards to the very many experienced, productive, and successful teachers who wish to continue teaching for several more years. I can do that. I would like to do that. But I am not going to do that. The school environment and all the problems contained therein makes me instead say with great sadness and regret, “No, I’m not going to do that! I’m out of here!!”
