The Scourge of Pornography
By
Roger Behra
One of the saddest events in our daily lives is the proliferation and the addiction of internet pornography that has taken over in countless thousands of people´s lives, both young and old. It has become a gravely sinful and harmful addiction for males and females alike. Every day now we face the ever increasing and mainstreaming of pornography in the culture of the world and especially in the United States.
Because of this proliferation of internet pornography far to many people do not regard pornography as immoral and gravely sinful. It is true that the first amendment of the constitution in the U. S. A. allows it, but that does not make it alright in our lives and culture. On the contrary, the first amendment widely opened the door to one of Satan´s most powerful instruments.
A recent study showed that 38 percent of Americans adults accept pornography as morally acceptable. Also, recently, a U. S. federal judge strucked down the 1998 Child Online Protection Act as a violation of a constitutional right to free speech. Morally grounded individuals will forever shake their heads at that judicial decision. It has greatly blurred the line between what is morally acceptable and what is not.
Recently a college professor out wardly confessed his addiction here in the United States to internet pornography. As a result of that addiction his marriage was ruined, has wife left him, and he is now teaching others how not to get into a similar situation, that internet pornography and other types of it are very addictive and how it can ruin lives. This is aside from the fact that all pornography is a from of immorality and gravely sinful.
All the blame for the great proliferation of internet pornography in the U. S. A. rests on the shoulders of the federal judge and also other lawmakers who do not speak out against this increasing scourge. Pornography is greatly dehumanizing as well. It effects marriages, corrupts children, affects our public safety, inspires perverse expression, and degrades human sexuality. And now it is happening at very quick pace right before our eyes. Where is the logic? How can a remedy take place? How can judges and lawmakers live with themselves? Or sleep at night?
